The most important facts about the new Mercedes-Benz GLC in brief

Drive systems: The new GLC is systematically designed for hybrid drive, and sets standards in efficiency. The engine range has four-cylinder petrol and diesel units combined with an electric motor. Four of these are mild-hybrid units with a second-generation integrated starter-generator (ISG). Three further engine variants are plug-in hybrids with a system output of up to 280 kW (381 hp) and a system torque of up to 750 Nm. All the plug-in hybrids have an electric range of more than 100 kilometres (WLTP).

More electric than ever: thanks to the electric range, day-to-day distances can usually be covered all-electrically. The improved hybrid driving programme provides the electric driving mode for the most appropriate sections of the route. Electric driving is prioritised on journeys in urban areas, for example.

All-rounder both on and off the road: the GLC has significantly improved on and off-road attributes for adverse weather conditions and stretches with unmetalled roads. These include simplified operation using the off-road screen, clearer information thanks to the “transparent bonnet” and outstanding traction and handling safety by virtue of improved control systems. Even when a plug-in hybrid is driving in all-electric mode.

Comfort and agility: Key components of the GLC’s dynamically configured chassis include new four-link front suspension and multi-link independent rear suspension. The standard suspension already provides a high level of suspension, ride and noise comfort, agile handling and driving enjoyment. It is equipped with an amplitude-dependent damping system. The AIRMATIC air suspension has variably adjustable damping for compression and rebound.

Agile and safe: The new GLC is particularly agile and stable with the optional rear-axle steering combined with a more direct steering ratio at the front axle. The steering angle at the rear axle is up to 4.5 degrees. This reduces the turning circle by 90 centimetres, to 10.9 metres.

Exterior design: Unique proportions with classic SUV features such as a simulated chrome underguard, roof rails and optional running-boards are combined with new contoured edges in the sides to create a balance between elegance, sportiness and off-road performance. Highlights include the new headlamps, which connect directly to the radiator grille and accentuate the vehicle’s width. In combination with the optional DIGITAL LIGHT, they feature daytime running light ellipses in addition to the familiar “torch”. Another visual highlight is the radiator grille with chrome surround on the standard AVANTGARDE exterior.

Interior design: the GLC continues the successful formula of modern, sporty luxury from Mercedes-Benz. The dashboard, for example, is horizontally divided into two sections and features generous trim surfaces with a central display that appears to float above it. The avant-garde seat design and modern door panels emphasise the high quality of the interior.

Wind resistance: in its aerodynamically most favourable configuration, the minimal drag coefficient of the GLC is Cd = 0.29. This makes it two hundredths better than its predecessor (Cd = 0.31) – a notable advance for an SUV with conventional drive.

Noise comfort: At an even higher level, the GLC is a pleasantly quiet vehicle with a refined sound signature and very low road and wind noise. All the acoustic measures jointly contribute to the “welcome home” atmosphere that is a Mercedes-Benz hallmark.

MBUX: The latest generation of the infotainment system with two large displays and full-screen navigation as standard makes the interior even more digital and intelligent.

Maximum operating convenience: The voice assistant “Hey Mercedes” has become more capable of dialogue and learning. The MBUX Smart Home function turns the GLC into a mobile control centre for the home.

Entertainment: MBUX fully integrates all the major music streaming providers, including personal preferences and settings. Also new to MBUX is the audio Tourguide as part of the MBUX Voice Assistant from Mercedes me. The optional Burmester® surround sound system offers a unique listening experience with 15 premium speakers and a total output of 710 watts.

Assistance systems: The latest generation of the Driving Assistance package Plus contains additional and improved functions, for example in Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC, Active Steering Assist, Traffic Sign Assist, the new Parking package with 360-degree camera and “transparent bonnet”, as well as Trailer Manoeuvring Assist.

Digital Light: This revolutionary headlamp technology (optional) provides new functions such as the projection of auxiliary markings and warning symbols onto the road.

Comfort appointments: The components and systems of the GLC are improved in numerous details, e.g. ENERGIZING AIR CONTROL, AIR-BALANCE, GUARD 360°, ambience lighting or the new panoramic sunroof, which has a slimmer cross-strut for a significantly improved feeling of spaciousness. The optional multicontour seat now has extended massage functions.

Ideal partner for trailer operations: The new trailer menu and the towing route planner are two highlights of the GLC for towing operations. The aim of these and numerous further advanced functions for operation as a towing vehicle is to make towing as safe and pleasant as possible. Moreover, the 4MATIC all-wheel drive provides outstanding traction on any surface.
